ORTON-GILLINGHAM WORKSHOP
Basic Orton-Gillingham Training Course
for Teachers and Parents of students with Dyslexia
August 2-6, 2010

This training strives to increase participants' knowledge and effectiveness in working with students with dyslexia. It is an intensive course that provides opportunities for a variety of hands-on exercises, which advance the understanding of the specific procedures of the Orton-Gillingham Approach and the underlying principles in teaching reading, spelling, and written expression.
Topics Include:
- The Orton-Gillingham Approach, its history and philosophy
- Current research on the biological and neurological underpinnings of dyslexia
- The nature and needs of the dyslexic learner
- The history and structure of the English language
- Phonemic and phonological awareness
- Making spelling a thought subject
- Resources and teaching materials
- Diagnostic and prescriptive teaching
- Daily practice with materials and subject matter
